Discussion “Is it just children?”
Discussion “Is it just children?” – about how to deal with violence among schoolchildren
As it was noticed during regional screenings, the film leaves no one indifferent: the experience of school bullying – in any role – is familiar practically to everyone. That’s why we are going to talk about “the normality” of “child violence” phenomenon and about the methods which adults (school, society, parents) can follow to influence the problem
Together with a psychologist, journalists and experts we will try to figure out the following:
How much has the actual understanding of the problem of bullying transformed over recent 20 years? Who is the “trendsetter”, initiator or leader on the way to finding solutions to the problem?
How is it possible to right a wrong within the problem? Are there any borders while acting in this direction?
How direct is the link between the social hierarchy, developed by children in cases of bullying, and the “culture of violence, which is so common in the post-Soviet space in general and in Belarus in particular?
In what way and with whom should we talk about violence … constructively?
The moderator of the meeting will be Tatsiana Vadalazhskaya, a sociologist, researcher, head of Flying University.
Film screening is organized as part of the joint event of WATCH DOCS Belarus, “Human Library” and the UN in Belarus for Human Rights Day. We commend the Swedish Embassy in Minsk for the possibility to show this exact film.
Entrance is free.
